street car to street trike?

Was trying to collect information for cycling in Tokyo when I came upon this link. It's pretty hilarious looking at the Google crew pushing the street view tricycle more than trying to cycle it through the historic sites.

too much road.

"205 times the length of Singapore."
click to view it in a larger size.

An infographic I did for studio research on land use in Singapore to explore the potential and implications of bicycle-[something] implementation. (The original has inverted colours because the projector in studio has horrible resolution and needs to display stuff on a white background.)

I've been wanting to do such graphics for a reeeally long time since DW introduced me to them during the internship. Though it's far from the standard of those that he recommended I look at, I'm still quite happy with my first attempt. Spent a disgustingly long time on it; now I know how much research, reading, and work goes into one single such graphic. :)

P.S. Before anyone spots the 'mistake' - the title for this post is actually not grammatically unsound though it seems to be. Heh.

indecisive us.

pickled cabbage
fried wanton noodle
dumpling soup
dan dan mian

this was a good after-studio dinner with puteh and smellyhead last week? i haven't eaten at Mayim for quite some time since i encountered a foul-tasting har gao there when i went with mummy a few years ago. they've changed their menu since... and it's become pretty extensive, although confusing. i'm not sure if it was because i was famished, but i thought the food was quite palatable. they have a range of condiments on the table that are distinctly unique too... and give the cabbage appetizer a try; i really like the sweet, sour and spicy taste of it. :)

all tied up
i saw this poor palm tree while going past the Old Supreme Court, looking like the victim of a sadomasochistic assault gone wrong. should we say thanks to F1 racing for doing this to our plants? :|

the mid-semester break had MLA scrambling to meet up (for a good time!) as soon as we could. the gathering was a bit lacking in numbers, though. oh well we still had lots of fun. i'm not really sure how to review the dinner at Handburger... had the handburger original with a $4 top-up (about $14 in total inclusive of taxes), and the Caesar salad was really nice. but the burger was quite a disappointment because i didn't like the raw-looking, unchewable bits in the beef patty. meh. drinks at Helipad after dinner completed the night! puteh's friends joined us (or the other way around), and we had a lot of fun playing drinking games and laughing. :)

a description without a name.

i am actually blogging this during studio right now. lol. i was the first to present today, and have been utterly bored since i was done. this morning was a mad rush to finish the presentation of the design, and i'm not entirely satisfied with it despite spending so much time trying to work out the kinks of my project's focus. but we shall not talk about depressing things here (therefore i will not be blogging about the tutor's expectably-cutting comments about my proposal later after everyone is done). hah.

actually, this is quite overdue stuff. i haven't had much time recently to sort the photos, resize and watermark them so i thought i'd just do it now while waiting for the colloquium to end. chingy, brother, rachel and i (the usual brunch club) went to Riders Cafe near Turf City for breakfast quite a while back. every time i'm upset, i like to have some nice breakfast or brunch on weekday mornings because it cheers me up tremendously? so it's a good thing for me that chingy is still schooling (with me!), and brother is still freelancing, and rachel hasn't found work yet. lol.

P.S. it was raining extremely heavily, so the photos did not really turn out very well due to the lighting.

the ideal vision.

OCP poster

i won't deny, there were moments over the weekend that i'd doubted all the effort spent on this panel for today's colloquium would be worth it. i'd stop my work, stare sadly at the poster, and imagine the tutor telling me that "this is naive". there is nothing more insulting than that (though many other things he says do come very close).

it paid off. the panel that i thought was the most useless of the four i had, turned out to be the saving grace.
for this, i'm really thankful that i didn't give up on it like i had initially planned to.

studio was OK.
but studio is always OK in the beginning; it's the final race that kills me off every time.
sigh.
and i should stop sighing. haha.
