Skipping across the stove

Fried rice (or fried anything) is about the easiest dish to cook in the world. Hehe. Chinese mushrooms (冬菇?) always do the trick, and everyone has some at home... :)

Staples

Old Town sells my favourite instant coffee (2-in-1 please, the 3-in-1 is too sweet for me), but I think their food is only so-so. The prawn mee (top pic) is one of their better dishes and I think it's pretty good, though my parents beg to differ. Heh. (DO NOT order their Penang Laksa!!! It's so terrible I can't describe it.)

Celebrating No Occasion.

Had dinner with SH at Modesto's @ Elizabeth, and he surprised me with a bouquet of beautiful yellow tulips (one of my favourite flowers)! They're now lovingly arranged in a standing tin of ice cubes - a sunny reminder of the best pizza I've eaten in Singapore so far, and a strangely palatable Italian sliced ice-cream.

I've loved the salted egg crab at Famous Crab King ever since I was brought there for Huiying's birthday. I think I could spend hours there just scraping and licking the gravy off the shell... Haha. Tried the fish maw soup there, and it was not too bad. They served complimentary dessert at the end of the meal (and I would think they should when the meal for two came up to SGD$63)...

for all the good things to come

Had dinner (all-day breakfast?) at Wild Honey with my lovely ACUte some time ago. For once, I passed over my standard order of eggs benedict (when available), and decided on Tunisian (shown in the second picture), and it was awesome! I don't know what they put in there, but it had just the right amount of spiciness and tomato-goodness, and of course, my favourite egg. Anyways, I love my girls, and thanks for the long and meaningful chat. :)

there's something about soup

No matter how bad my day has been, every time I come home to mummy's cooking, it always makes me feel warm, loved and contented. :)

Also, here's wishing my handsome little brother a happy birthday and much better days ahead!

Mummy's birthday last week brought Grandma and us to No Signboard at Vivocity because she wanted to have chilli crab. Unfortunately, I'm going to be unkind and say that the random 煮炒 place opposite my house serves better chilli crabs than what we got here. The appetizer plate, shark's fin (oops for being politically incorrect) and the somewhat-dry-but-still-palatable yam dessert (orh nee) were not too bad, but overall the brand's pretty overrated. :|

up to date

Everybody knows I love the zha jiang mian at Asian Kitchen. I eat it almost exclusively when I'm there, except for their village tofu, which is sour and crispy. I like the cucumber in both dishes... It really adds a crunch that I can't get enough of. This was dinner with Chingy after a studio session that finally provided some relief. She got me these postage stamps with pretty depictions of trees! *loves* Just as I was showing her this website I found while I was looking for pictures of Cinnamomum iners. :)

indecisive us.

this was a good after-studio dinner with puteh and smellyhead last week? i haven't eaten at Mayim for quite some time since i encountered a foul-tasting har gao there when i went with mummy a few years ago. they've changed their menu since... and it's become pretty extensive, although confusing. i'm not sure if it was because i was famished, but i thought the food was quite palatable. they have a range of condiments on the table that are distinctly unique too... and give the cabbage appetizer a try; i really like the sweet, sour and spicy taste of it. :)

i saw this poor palm tree while going past the Old Supreme Court, looking like the victim of a sadomasochistic assault gone wrong. should we say thanks to F1 racing for doing this to our plants? :|










the mid-semester break had MLA scrambling to meet up (for a good time!) as soon as we could. the gathering was a bit lacking in numbers, though. oh well we still had lots of fun. i'm not really sure how to review the dinner at Handburger... had the handburger original with a $4 top-up (about $14 in total inclusive of taxes), and the Caesar salad was really nice. but the burger was quite a disappointment because i didn't like the raw-looking, unchewable bits in the beef patty. meh. drinks at Helipad after dinner completed the night! puteh's friends joined us (or the other way around), and we had a lot of fun playing drinking games and laughing. :)

mishmash

as recommended by fab, Razuken was the choice for the night. the food was good, and i would say that the sets were reasonably priced for the quality as well (my teppanyaki beef set being about $18). i didn't get to study the menu as i was late and extremely hungry, and more or less just pointed at whatever caught my eye first.

meet-ups with FUGA peeps are always nonsensically serious and seriously nonsensical. our topics for the night can range from the mundane (expenses tracking, work...), to the contemplative (horrors! the M-word!), to the idiotic (who can give the most emo look of the night without laughing? all except one whose task was to look lovesick, to much success!), to the downright disturbing (a certain iPhone app... hmmm). but whatever, they're one of the best bunch of friends to be around! :) we never run out of things to say (to the point where a few entirely separate conversations can occur simultaneously) but time is never on our side.
